FOOD
1/2 Cup of pellet food (we use Fibre 3 by Purina from Sam's Western Store), daily.
1/4 Cup of oatmeal mixed with the above is recommended, daily, until 5 months of age.
Apples, Carrots & Sweet Potatoes can be given once a week, ONLY after 6 months of age.
NEVER give grapes or raisins - these can be toxic. NEVER give radishes, oranges or any other high acid fruits or vegetables (no Cabbage!). Rabbits must have hay daily to stay healthy. Use grass hay but do not feed alfalfa hay (daily) for it is too rich and no Timothy or Alfalfa hay to rabbits under 5 months old. CHANGE FOOD & WATER DAILY.

GENERAL CARE
Use only pine chip bedding in trays. DO NOT use cedar bedding - the fumes will harm the rabbit. Clean the cage 1 to 2 times a week to keep parasites from infecting your rabbit.
Wash water bottles with bleach once a month - more often in the hot summer months.
Clip nails once a month - check them often. If they are long - cut them.
DO NOT keep the rabbit in the direct sunlight - it can damage their fur & can cause the rabbit to get too hot - this can kill your rabbit very quickly.
*Signs a rabbit is getting too hot: * Wet fur around and/or on top of the nose *Panting or heavy breathing. * If your rabbit is starting to show signs of heat exhaustion - cool it off with an ice bottle (plastic bottle filled with water - then frozen) or put rabbit in a bath of water. You can also put ice cubes in the water bottle as well. Frozen water bottles are also a great way to keep your rabbit cool during the hot summer months, either put them in the cage or hang on the outside.

THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Signs of diarrhea - increase oats or hay.
Weepy eyes or mucus around the eye area.
Constant scratching - hair loss causing baldness around head, neck & ears. If you have other pets - like cats or dogs, fleas or mites are probably the problem. Use only kitten or cat flea powders or shampoos.

HOW TO PROPERLY CARRY YOUR RABBIT
Grasp rabbit by the scruff of the neck. Lift it carefully & support its weight by holding it under it's rump with the other hand. Bring to your chest. ALWAYS HOLD YOUR RABBIT WITH BOTH HANDS. A fall from that height can seriously injure and/or kill your rabbit. When carrying your rabbit around - tuck the rabbit's head into your arm between your elbow & side covering it's eyes. Quick movements can scare your rabbit which could make it want to jump out of your arms.
